Lillian and Johns first 2 children Claude and Frederick died as infants. While one of the infants was being buried it is rumoured that an indian family came to bury thier child and were denied by cemetary officials. John allowed the couple to bury thier deseased child with his because they were "both children of god".

Notes for RICHARD MATTHEW ZIEMANN:

Known as Dick. The headstone in St Johns Norway Cemetary reads Richard's name as Ziemann, but on the ground just north of the big stone lays a plaque and it reads Zieman. Bob Burgener says the name was changed during world war I because it was better to be thought of as Jewish than German...even though the family is Prussian decent.

Dick only 16 years old fought in WWI on Somme River France.

Notes for KATHLEEN PORTER:

Kate's Prominent family at first didn't approve of Dick (her childhood sweetheart) finally in thier forties they were allowed to wed. Kay lived near Pat and Chris after Dick's death and upon her death in the mess of her appartment no one could find the deed to the Ziemann plot used when Dick was buried. Kay was buried in the Porter's family plot.

While living in Guelph 7 children were born-2 girls died as infants, the girls are listed in the cemetary records but on graves were found for them. After the move to Toronto, 5 more children were born with 1 more girl dying as an infant and buried at Prospect Cemetary.

When Henrietta and William left Toronto, they built a small house on a corner of the farm belonging to daughter Bernice and husband Harvey Brown, at rural Shelbourne. She lived until her death at St Josephs Hospital in Toronto.

Notes by daughter Dorothy- Henrietta/Katherina was a seamstress as a teenager and throughout her lifetime created clothes for her five daughters and four sons. Most of these clothes were made from used clothing that she ripped apart and pressed the fabric to re cut styles needed. She had a hard life, raising children, with the depression, little money to feed a large family and no recreation.

Cause of death cancer of the stomach, she was ill three months.

Chris, Burgy or Grandpop invented the mercury switch and when showing his device to patent officals he was told the item was too dangerous containing mercury and it wouldn't sell so he didn't bother patenting it. General Electric legally patented his idea and Christian never was able to claim royalties. Another unprofitable adventure was, his brother-in-law James Anderson Wilson offered him sole distributor rights in Canada for the orginal VW Beatle and he turned it down because he felt 1. who will buy a car with the motor in the back, 2. just after the war who would buy German products, 3. cash was limited.
